Your network is people who travel a hundred kilometers for you
A matchmaking event between greentech startups, put together just by writing, one by one, to the people in my network. And something I never take for granted.

Oh my dear founder…
How do you use your network? I asked myself after a small event we organised at BIGBO, Boost Innovation Garage: a matchmaking session between greentech and sustainability startups, as a side event of the Green Incubation Program 🌱
I put it together by contacting, one by one, the people in my network I'd met through collaborations, events and all sorts of chats. No campaigns, no mass invites.
It's not a given
It's wonderful to think that someone decides to make the trip, travels hundreds of kilometers, makes a commitment and accepts your invitation to an event, a meetup or a masterclass. It's not a given at all.
And don't come telling me they only do it for personal gain: of course that's part of it too 😉 But the fact that they have a bond with you leads them to say “hey, you know that guy is sharp? Why don't we give him a hand?”. For free, because we want to help each other, because they believe in you, in your projects or in your madness.
What I took from it
A network isn't the number of connections. It's how many people get off the couch when you call them. And you don't build that number when you need it: you build it beforehand, one relationship at a time.
(Sorry, but as an incurable optimist about the world and about people, I just can't see it any other way.)
